Kickstarter! 2013 Moe Headphones Design by Lunatic Joker

Hey Everyone! It's been a while ^^ I had a lot of RL stuff going on, so I haven't updated the blog recently.
Anyway, I backed a Kickstarter that I wanted to mention here, if anyone is interested. It is a book detailing Headphones drawn in a moe style by Lunatic Joker. The book will also feature reviews of the headphones and illustrations of the headphones. The six headphones that the book touch upon are:
beats by dr.dre BEATS STUDIO
DIESEL Noise Division VEKTR
AKG Q701
The second portion of the book is a roundtable discussion with 9 Namco sound engineers. You can read more about them in the Kickstarter link below.
You can pledge a dollar to support the group, or you start getting rewards if you pledge $5 or more. I pledged $20, so if the Kickstarter is funded, I will get a physical copy of the book + digital wallpaper and postcards. The link is below, so if you are interested or you want to see sample pages click below!

P.S. I will do short reviews of the anime that I watched this season. They were all very good, and I want to have my thoughts out there!
Also Happy Holidays :)

E3 2013 Highlights (For me)

I've been following the coverage for E3 for 2013, and I am blown away! I love the stuff that Sony and Nintendo are coming out with, and my brother has already reordered a PS4!
Games that I am excited about include:
Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Kingdom Hearts 3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Dragon's Crown

Super Mario 3D World

Super Smash Bros

X (working title)

Bayonetta 2

Mario & Luigi Dream Team

Shin Megami Tensei IV

Pokemon X & Y

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Link to The Past 2)

Mario Kart 8

...and many more! I'll probably make a second post. I also wanted to say, that while I loved the Xbox 360 and all the cool games it has, i am probably going to pass on the Xbox One. The games that usually get me to buy a console are Jrpgs, and since pretty much all the Japanese developers are on Sony or Nintendo's side, I will be supporting those consoles. Many of the games I want are also cross-platform, so I could play them on the PS4 or my Alienware PC, and thus have no need for the Xbox One. Also I'm not too fond of the whole Kinect always on thing or the possible DRM that Microsoft puts on its games. The biggest complaint with Xbox, however, is that Xbox Live Gold feels like a ripoff, since you need it to to use Netflix, Hulu Plus or use online multiplayer. With Playstation, I could use all those, even without the PS+ membership, and with PS+ I have access to tons of free games, which I take advantage of. Thus, the Xbox 360 will probably be my first and last Microsoft console for the foreseeable future.
Overall though, I am impressed at this E3 thus far, the games were definitely on full display here!

Galaxy S III Get!!

Recently I got a Galaxy S III from AT&T at my local Best Buy...They were going for $49.99 USD and I couldn't resist, especially since I've been out of contract for a year and it was time for an upgrade from my iPhone 4. (Which is still a good phone BTW, I just don't like the lack of customization) The First thing I did was root the phone, by flashing through Heimdall and the installed Clockwork Recovery on the phone. After performing a backup, I installed the CyanogenMod 10.1 NIGHTLY Rom. I was not impressed with Samsung's TouchWiz and I knew I wanted Vanilla Android on my device, hence I did this.
After installing I set up my device and apps, and I've got to say I love the phone, It runs fast and is very customizable. Since I modded, I no longer have access to S Beam or the gestures, but I never really cared for that stuff anyways, what I wanted was a fast usable phone and CyanogenMod 10.1 did it for me.
Here are some screenshots of the phone running two version of 10.1 Nightly, The bottom one is my current setup as of today.

Anime Impressions Spring 2013

Since I am watching quite a few shows this season, I thought I would just leave my impressions and the number of episodes of the shows that I am currently watching, enjoy!

DATE A LIVE (1-3):
By far, my favorite show this season. The fighting is very intense, and while at first I scoffed at the plot (Date Aliens to save mankind!), this anime makes it plausible. The characters are really good too. I really like it when the male mc of a series like this is not a pushover, and Itsuka is proving himself to be one of those characters. I also think it's cute how Touka is constantly trying to fin out what a date is in episode 3, and comes to several conclusions. I can't wiat to see where this show goes in the future.

Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko (1-2):
This has become my second favorite show, but that really only happened after episode 2. I love anime that focuses on characters who are not part of the 'norm' like how Haganai deals with characters who have no friends. This anime revolves around characters who believe they are missing something in their personality, and they want to change it. Also the characters are drawn by Kantoku, so they are super cute. I especially like Tsukiko, I have an odd urge to hug her (moe~) in practically very scene she's in.

Railgun S2 (1-2):
I love the Index series, so I know I needed to watch Railgun once more. This season overlaps with Index's Sisters/Accelerator Arc, and looks at the events from Misaka's POV. Already having a first season, there was no need to define the characters, and the season starts out with a few scenarios that seem unrelated, but knowing this series, they probably all add up in the end. Also Misaka blows up a freaking helicopter, sweet.

OreImo S2 (1-3):
The second season of this great series follows the true ending, rather than the good ending, so make sure to watch that first if you haven't already. This series starts after Kirino's return and first starts with her return to normalcy. While the series will focus on Kirino and Kyousuke. I wanted to bring to attention the Saori episode, because, I though they never really gave her a background in the 1st season, but it sure was nice to learn about her past.

RDG (1-3):
This is quite a beautiful series. It is fantasy series somewhat based on Shinto legends, drawn by the amazing Mel Kishida. The anime follows a young girl named Izumiko, who lives out in the mountains, and is goaded by her father to go to High school in Tokyo, but she refuses. She has the ability to destroy electronics, to the point that she has to keep replacing her cell phone, and she is very, very shy. She meets a boy named who remembers her from childhood, Miyuki and while at first they hate each other, they soon grow to trust each other, when several strange events occur. It is a great series if you like a dash of the paranormal in your slice of life anime.

Photokano (1-3):
This show really reminds me of Amagami SS, maybe because they are from the same creator. Of all the shows this season, this one has my least interest. It's basically a typical harem series that revolves around a guy named Kazuya who comes into possession of a camera. He starts taking pictures of the girls in the series, and this leads to romance. There are some funny times like when he blackmails the Student Council President, into doing several things with a photo he took of her. Just like Amagami though, the little sister is shaping up to be the best character.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Bride (1-3):
The second season of Hyakka Ryouran, this is my fanservice series of the season following in the proud tradition of  Senran Kagura, Queen's Blade, Ikkitousen, an several other Ecchi anime, that I love. Like the other snime, and this show's 1st season, you need to knwo what you're getting into: there will be a ton of nudity an Panty shots, so if you are uninterested in these or offended, then don't watch. In this season, Muneakira returns from his journey to find out that the girls have turned the Dojo into a Maid Cafe, and hilarity ensues. Several Dark Samurai are resurrected and defeat the cast, giving them a short period of time to get stronger until they return. That's pretty much it for the plot.

Yuyushiki (1-3):
Here is my do nothing slice of life pick for the season. This anime follows three girls who join the data processing club, not really to learn about computers, but just to o regular stuff. The majority of what I've watched so far just has the girls taking about really anything that comes to their mind. It's a good show for winding down, and I was looking for this after the great A-channel and K-ON.

Alienware and Ubuntu

Alienware, the Dell owned gaming computer manufacturer, is now offering Alienware X51's (My Machine) pre-installed with Ubuntu Linux rather than Windows 7 or 8. In my opinion I an quite excited, I love Linux, but the only area that it is not up to snuff with is high end gaming. Ever since Stream was announced for Linux, the opportunities for gaming on the OS has gone into overdrive, and looks like even Alienware is attempting to see what they can do with it. It looks like these computers will also come with Steam per-installed as well. Since Ubuntu Linux is free, the computer is even $100 less at $599 vs $699 for the Windows equivalent.

As or the machine itself, I own the Windows 7 X51, and I'm quite pleased with it. It is a very compact, yet powerful machine, that I can connect to my own monitor or the HDTV in the living room. I run Linux Mint on mine through Virtualbox, and have a Windows 3.11 setup through DosBox.

Anime Spring 2013

So here we are again at the beginning of a new anime season. So, just like before, here is the link to the chart of the Spring Season, which goes from April (Actually end of March) to May 2013! I would post it here, but it is a very large image, that never seems to fit within the bounds of this blog, so I'll just link it this time.
I'm interested in Red Data Girl, Railgun S, Date A Live, Devil Survivor 2 and Hentai Ouji, are they any series that pique your interest?

Scarlet Blade Closed Beta Ends!

As I've mentioned in a previous post, I recently stared playing Scarlet Blade. Pretty soon on March 26th (Tomorrow!) The Closed Beta (I will refer to this as CB from now on) will end at 6:30 PM PST. While Open Beta (OB) has not been announced yet, The servers will be wiped, which means I'll lose my character data :( Unlike CB, when OB starts, the servers will not be wiped when it is over, so you can keep your character.

Here is my CB Character Ibis, Isn't she cute? (I love girls in glasses)

After getting out of the training area, you end up in Enocia. Ibis is still wearing the basic armor.
During the weekend, they were giving out schoolgirl costumes to all who were playing. So, as you can guess, here's Ibis in one. (Don't get her mad...)
 And just standing around...
Not only are the characters pretty, the environment is gorgeous, Here is an overlook of Enocia.
And sitting in a Junkyard with my Robot pet, who I named GLaDOS (After a certain villian)
Finally Ibis on her bike!

When OB comes around, I'll try to see if I could create her again. Either way, this game turned out to be very fun; It is fast paced, and the hotkey system is very beneficial to getting things done. The Quests are straightforward, and I love the writing and innuendo. I think this will be become my F2P MMO game of choice. Everyone who is interested in the game, feel free to join when OB begins!
Leave any questions about the game in the comments. :)

***UPDATE*** Open Beta has begun!! (That was F%$&ing fast, good work GMs!) I've already got a new version of Ibis (She still looks the same as these Closed Beta screenshots) I play on the Valkyrie server, if you want to meet up or anything.

Sharin no Kuni Funny Moment

I was playing the eroge Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, and I ran across this line from Sachi (Redheaded girl with the ponytail), and it made me crack up.
That's all really. A great shout-out to the translators for this excellent line.

Scarlet Blade

In the US, Aeria Games is going to start the closed beta test for the Free-to-play MMO Scarlet Blade (It is also known as Queen's Blade in Korea...not related to the Japanese anime series.) It is a game with a heavy focus on fighting especially PvP battles. The game is also known for it's rather adult themes. The cast is ONLY female and as can be expected, scantily clothed. The game also lets you select from six classes: Defender (The Swordswoman), Medic (Healer class), Punisher, Sentinel (Tank class), Shadow Walker and Whipper. The game's characters are split in two factions which you can join as well. As I have said before in other articles, I love this crap, so I know I'm in. Here is a story trailer for the game:

And here's the character trailer:

If you are interested in this game, you can join the closed beta here.
There is more info and screenshots to be round at my favorite RPG website: RPGamer.

*Edit, I joined the closed beta, and I really like the game. You can play with WASD or mouse and commands are easy to pull off with a number system (The numeric keypad is super helpful for this) I chose the medic class and I named my character Ibis (After a certain SRW character) The graphics are great too, set it to best to see all kinds of fun stuff.

Touhou Project 13.5 Demo

I recently got my hands on the demo for Touhou Shinkirou ~ Hopeless Masquerade, and I'd thought I'd talk about it a little. The game is still in development, but the demo was released at Comiket 83. I've been a fan of the Touhou Project ever since I played Touhou Hisouten ~Scarlet Weather Rhapsody~ (10.5), and I've played every other official game in the series as well as a few unofficial games. I love the characters and the setting of the series. If you want to learn more about the series in general, I suggest you visit the Touhou Wiki.

13.5 is the fourth fighting game in the series, following 7.5, 10.5 and 12.3, but this game is a dramatic departure from those. In this game there are no more land battles, the game is entirely in the air, which is appropriate since in the main games, the characters are always flying. This game uses a created from scratch engine and runs much smoother than the previous fighting games. It is also the first game in the series to be at native 720p, so it looks beautiful.

In the demo, there are three characters to choose from: The series mainstay and Shrine Maiden of Paradise Reimu Hakurei, The "Ordinary" Magician Marisa Kirisame; and joining a fighting game for the first time: Ichirin Kumoi from Touhou Seirensen (12). The story isn't present in this demo as you can only face off against the CPU or another player. Still, the story follows from Ten Desires (13) and deals with the clash between the three major religions of Gensokyo: Buddhism, Taoism and Shintoism, for the humans in the village due to the current state of pessimism surrounding all the recent events in the series.

I was very impressed with what I've played so far, and I wonder how many more characters are they going to add. (Hopefully my favorite Yukari Yakumo.) The game play reminds me of a combination of Street Fighter and Blazblue, in that while it is largely based on pulling off combos, it isn't as easy as SF, but not as difficult as Blazblue. Also the flying only system ensures that you will need to think of how you are going to attack, because a straight line won't work well in this game.

I can't wait for the full game to arrive!!

Linux Terminal Commands

When using Linux, it is helpful to know the keyboard commands because unlike Windows, GNU/Linux is a command line based OS, and all the fancy GUIs are just that, GUIs. They are not necessary, basically. If you don't know the commands though  I found a handy wallpaper that shows several important commands for the terminal and also for VIM (A command line based text editor). I believe these commands also work for the most part on Mac OSX, since that is a UNIX based OS. (I don't expect then all to work though for that.)

You can download the image here.

The big N strikes back.

There are a lot of people who believe that Nintendo's glory days are behind them, and that all there is to look forward to anymore are the next Mario rehash game or the next Zelda game. Sometimes however the big N can surprise. Today Intendo released two semi-trailers for new new games and I can't wait to play these on a Wii U someday.

The first game is a collaboration between Nintendo, Intelligent Systems, and Atlus named Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. There is no gameplay yet, but my guess is it's going to be a tactical game. It looks that for the Shin Megami Tensei side they will focus on characters from the main series.

The other game is from Monolith Soft. (The makers of Xenosaga, Xenoblade, Super Robot Wars OG: Endless Frontier and the soon to be Project x Zone). The game is just named X and it reminds me of Monster Hunter and Xenoblade mixed together.

I can see good things in Nintendo's future.

Steam on Linux!!

I don't know why I didn't know about this until now, but Steam, the popular PC gaming platform created by Valve has released a beta version of their client on Linux. I have been a long time Linux fan, using it for my C++ programming as well has enjoying the overall freedom of the operating system. I use Linux Mint alongside my Windows 7, Windows 3.11 (Keep it around for some old school fun, and yes I use Dosbox as well), and Windows XP desktop setups.

Now in order to get Steam for linux, I assume you will need a distro based on Debian (The downloaded file is a .deb) All you need to do is go to the Steam Download Page and click on the Linux (beta) download. Open the file and let your package manager install the necessary packages it needs. Afterwards Steam should open and start updating to the most recent version. There are even a few games that already run on Linux like Team Fortress 2. The full list is here. Oh yeah, if you want to friend me on Stream, my username is
Here is a desktop screenshot of my Linux Mint running in Virtualbox:

Senran Kagura Episode 1 Impression

Ah fanservice, I have an odd relationship with thee. On one hand, I LOVE it, but I believe it alone cannot carry a story. It's the reason why I love Queen's Blade season two, but I don't care for the first season as much. (Rebellion is okay so far though). Now, Senran Kagura is based on the 3DS (and soon PS VITA) title of the same name. You basically get to control a bunch of ass-kicking busty women who fight against ninja and it has a clothes ripping system when you take damage; that alone is enough to pique my interest (yeah, yeah I know I'm shallow), but as I am still learning Japanese, and the fact that I wound need to import a Japanese 3DS to play it, means that I could never try the game anytime soon. When I learned that there was an anime adaption of the game I decided that I would give it a try, and I've got to say that if you expect a light sugary anime you will also be surprised.

The anime revolves around four girls: Asuka, Ikaruga, Katsuagi, Yagyuu and Hibari who attend the National Hanzo academy. This school which at first looks like a typical Japanese school, is secretly a training ground for ninja. The girls all have some trope to them, like Hibari is clumsy, Ikaruga is the serious girl, and Katsuragi is the pervert. Pretty standard fare for this type of anime.

The first thing I noticed about this anime is that the fight scenes are very well done, they are very fluid and exciting to watch. I wasn't expecting a lot of action and I hope it will continue. The characters that you are introduced to are also very likable, especially Asuka who is a very active and cheerful person.

All that said though, the main focus is on the fanservice. All the ladies are well endowed and it shows with all the breast jiggling and (intentional) loss of clothing during battles and whenever it deems necessary; Katsuragi even gropes the other girls a lot as well. Thus, if half naked girls isn't your cup of tea, I suggest you stay far far away.

One complaint I have with the show though is the lighting. The dark scenes are far too dark, though I think that may be due to the lighting on my computer.

Overall, I've got to say I was expecting a typical fanservice anime, and what I got was that but with some good action tossed in which is always great. The characters are interesting and the first episode sets up the premise, introducing the viewers to both the heroes and villians. I'll leave you here with some more screenshots and PV's. Feel free to leave any comments on your impression of the show.

This scene made me laugh!

Da Capo III Episode I Impression

I've been an fan of the Da Capo series for as long as it has existed. On January 5th, 2013, the first episode of the Anime adaption of the newest game Da Capo III aired, and I wanted to say what I thought of  this episode.

First of all I really like the homage they pay to the previous series, both in certain scenes and especially in the credits.

The Episode largely concerns itself with the viewer getting to know the cast; for example this lad is the hero of the story: Kiyotaka Yoshino. he is like most lead male characters in a harem series, except he isn't a pushover when he deals with women which is nice.

This lovely lady is my favorite girl of the series so far; Charles Yoshino. Don't ask me why she had a boy's name. She seems to be the sweet haafu girl being half Japanese and Half British.

This girl is Himeno Katsuagi and she is the childhood friend of Kiyo's.

These two girls are Aoi Hinomoto (Brown Haired Girl) and Sara Rurukawa (Purple Haired Girl) Aoi has a weak constitution and also worls a lot of Part-time jobs, while Sara is a prodigy that skipped a grade.

Finally, Ricca Morizono (Blonde Girl)  is the 'leader' of the group and the President of the Official Newspaper Club.

I love this series as it is a feel good comedy with some Drama added in to move the plot forward. The animation is well done, and the seiyuu are very talented; The voices are the same from the Eroge. Said plot of the episode revolves around writing a new article to gain more readers than the opposing Unofficial Newspaper Club. They decide to to a story on the Cherry Blossoms on Hatsunejima. (The island that the Da Capo series is set in.)

They go to investigate the tree and decide to make a wish under the largest one. For some reason the withering tree then blossoms back to life. This event sets off the remainder of the episode. I suggest that you watch the rest to see what happens next.

On another note, Charles is adorable! She makes a fun roommate too it seems.
You can't say no to that face.

Overall, I can't wait to see what the next episode will bring. For anyone who has watched, what do you think?
